KSYK osallistui European Space Agencyn satelliitti-kilpailuun Vaasassa (26.3.-29.3.)
Kulosaaren yhteiskoulun peruskoulun 9H-luokan joukkue suuntasi Vaasaan 26.3.–29.3.2026 osallistuakseen European Space Agencyn satelliittikilpailuun.
Oppilaat kirjoittivat matkalta kuulumisia, joita voit lukea alta!

KSYK participated in the European Space Agency’s satellite competition! (March 26th–March 29th)
A team from KSYK class 9H headed to Vaasa from March 26th to March 29th, 2026, to participate in the European Space Agency’s satellite competition! The team built a satellite that was launched from the Söderfjärden meteorite crater to a height of approximately one kilometer to perform a scientific mission. The teams measure various things or have another type of scientific task to complete.
The goal of the competition is to inspire young people in fields related to engineering, space, robotics, and programming. The work took place at the Åbo Akademi facilities and culminated in an exciting launch!
The team:
Lukas: Team leader, as well as the 3D design and 3D printing of the satellite’s casing.
Antto & Orlando: Hardware and software (building and programming the satellite).
Coco & Nadiya: Communications and social media.
The students wrote updates from the trip, which you can read below!
Thursday 26.3.2026
Five students from 9H have been building a satellite for a CanSat satellite competition. We arrived late Wednesday night to a hostel. On Thursday morning a bus took us to Åbo Akademi in Vaasa to get an introduction into the programme. We were given the day to finalise building the satellite and we painted the rocket that would launch it into the sky. Additionally, during the day our satellite had to undergo technical inspection in order to get the clear for launch, which we did, and we presented our cansat to the jury of the competition. But the final presentation with the results will be on Sunday, after which the winner will be decided. On Friday we will launch the rocket and satellite.

Friday 27.3.2026
– A bus drove us to Meteoria Söderfjärden Visitor Centre which is in the middle of an ancient meteor crater because it cleared a huge area which is nowadays used as agricultural land.
– We did the final adjustments and preparations on our satellite
– We launched the satellite in a rocket about 1km into the atmosphere
– The satellite landed in a muddy field so two of our teammates, Lukas and Antto, went to retrieve it but one of our teammates got stuck in the mud whilst the other got out. Jukka Lämsä had to go retrieve the teammate, Lukas, who got stuck in the mud.
