Nineteen enthusiastic 1st- and 2nd-year students embarked on an unforgettable research trip to the Tvärminne Zoological Station as part of their Environmental Research course. The course was conducted in collaboration with the University of Helsinki and the University of Turku.
Over two packed days, students explored Baltic Sea organisms in the lab, conducted water sampling by rowing boat, attended fascinating lectures by researchers, and carried out hands-on investigations into oil spills and the carbon cycle.
Here’s what some students had to say:
- “The microscopes were so cool!”
- “The food and the scenery – absolutely amazing!”
- “Best part was the sauna, swimming, and evening fun together!”
- “It was super interesting to hear the scientists’ stories and learn what their working life is like.”
The trip was a perfect mix of learning, fun, and team spirit—with just a few soggy rubber overalls along the way!
Special thanks to Tvärminne environmental educator Ilse Klockars, young researcher Margo Williamson, and University of Turku’s Veli-Matti Vesterinen and Sanna Mäki for their collaboration and support.
